Setting Up Searches and Alerts on Craigslist

It doesn’t take long to figure out Craigslist searches have to be very specific.  You get different results for ever so slight changes in your search – like CBR, CBR600, CBR 600, CBR600RR, like that.  After a few weeks of spending about a half hour searching the Northeast for every variation of CBR600RR I could think of, I decided to explore the “save search” and “set alert” function.  See the buttons, just under the Search window?

Click one of those and you get this:

OK, so you have to set up an account.  Fair enough, and CL seems to be pretty protective of privacy concerns, so let’s dive in.  There you get this screen:

The only trick is to actually do the search before clicking the “set alerts” button, or else you’ll just set an alert for wherever you’re at when you click it, regardless of what’s in the “Search” field.

Right?  Sounds cool.  Let’s see how it works.  Here’s what I got in my email – one email for each of 7 search alerts.  Also note – I’m getting a search report for each of the two areas I’m looking in – NH and Boston.  Which is cool.
