Everything Old is New Again Dept: Monoshocks

Think the monoshock – swingarm idea is something that graced us in the early ’80s and represents the highest evolution of Modern Framebuilding?  Well, have a look at this.

This is the Phil Vincent-designed cantilever frame, patented in 1927.  So there.  The very birth of motorcycles…  and this is one of the solutions offered…

I’m not one of those Vincent fanboys, honestly, I’ve never really latched onto them, though they do seem to always have been a few steps ahead of the pack, in spite of their collapse in 1936…  a pretty brief run.  But lesson learned.  If you want ideas, you have to start by learning your history.
