The ZEV company, it would seem, has been producing electric scooters for quite a while now… I only recently became aware of the company and their line of products, especially the ZEV6100- depending on how you look at it, either the coolest looking, um, scooter-cycle thing you’ve ever seen, or, uh, something not so complimentary. ZEV calls a spade a spade- they say on their site, riders call it a “2-wheeled pickup truck” (pretty much on target), and an “electric Harley” (not so much).

Forgive me for being a skeptic, but I’ve seen a lot of sites in the last few years, especially in the EV market, that set off my scam-o-meter, not so much in the bike end of things, but certainly in the battery/controller/motor sector, so until I get some real response I’m not going to go anywhere with a product. To ZEV’s credit, I got some answers almost immediately.
The company has a home office in Nevada, it appears, and some sort of facility around Pittsburgh PA where you can see and test drive the bikes. They make some big claims about the scooters- including the point that there’s no wait- they’re in stock. The pricing and model availability is pretty impressive… It’s worth noting, too, that they share the ZEV tag with Vectrix- could it be that some of the ex-Vectrix guys are onboard with this company- or maybe they just figure the ZEV is fair game… Enquiring minds want to know.
Hang tight, the company has promised to get me a complete specification matchup- some more details than what’s on their site, so I’ll be plugging the numbers into my Specification matrix and although it’s probably not entirely fair to match it up with the Zero or Enertia, it’s a claim that ZEV invites- along with the Empulse- so we’ll hold them to it. They spend a lot of time comparing to the Vectrix, unfortunately the only place you can get one of those is on Ebay now… I’d love to see the bikes, and if I do I’ll be completing the reviews with a the ride and user impressions, but for now, we’ll do what we can.
So we should have a pretty interesting matchup coming this weekend… these guys could certainly compete against the cheap Chinese electric scooters out there, and I haven’t seen anything quite like this-
Besides. I think it’s cute.
